I'm so pleased to share my new collection with you all (it's been a long time coming!).
The majority of the pieces were developed following a period of research and play from my time at Cove Park last year, where I was lucky enough to spend a month on a funded craft residency.
As well as experimenting with new materials, I took the time to draw, and explore how to translate these sketches into wearable pieces. I tend to create solid, flat shapes in a very controlled way, however this new approach allowed me to be spontaneous and work more freely, exploring negative space.
For visual research, I delved into a number of books – notably 'Objects of Desire: The Modern Still Life' by Margit Rowell. My research and sketches prompted my own abstract still-life forms, which take inspiration from 20th-century art: Gris’s cut-outs and Magritte’s mysterious connections, Picasso, Léger and others.
Below I have shared some images of my sketchbooks, test pieces and source material, as well as some of the new finished pieces.
